Centuries Before Love and War (2007) (Alternative)
Shoegaze still lives and breaths with this band. Here’s a perfect example of dusting off an old genre and owning it. The wet, sultry and dripping wet sound of this album smack of Catherine Wheel of the 90’s. The lead singer Jason Bell even sounds a bit like front man Rob Dickinson from Catherine Wheel of the 90’s. Yet, what they’ve done here is truly a beautiful, fresh approach. Take for instance the needle drop and percussive sounds in the first song "Centuries" add a bit of feedback underneath, build to a crescendo with cymbals and drive it home with a saturating guitar riff. All their songs have been really well engineered. The songs on this album range from soft and sentimental to full on noise, saturating you like a wall of rain sweeping over you. A great album to just chill or drive to. Highly recommended. rating:
